In 1969 Giles began his career in investments, joining James Capel as an analyst. In 1985 he formed his own investment management business, Hargreave Investment Management before opening a London office and becoming a partner of family stock broking firm Hargreave Hale & Co. Giles was senior partner of Hargreave Hale & Co, before becoming Chairman and CEO of Hargreave Hale Limited in 2001.
Since then Giles’s reputation within the industry has grown with funds under management of more than £400 million, including the Marlborough Special Situations Fund.
His success with the fund is attributable to his aggressive style and the funds ability to react quickly to change in market conditions, as well as experience and help from his team of analysts.
Together they stock pick with no particular restrictions, but tend not to go for companies with a market capitalisation of more than £200 million. His specialty and most frequently chosen investments are in small companies, new issues and companies going through difficult times but with good recovery prospects.
